Question 1

Who is this book for?

Accepted Answer

Grown-up friend groups. The finished stories are written for readers 16 and up: there is social drinking and cheeky teasing, and romance never goes past a closing door. Nothing in it is explicit.

Question 2

Whose names are in it?

Accepted Answer

A Ready-Made Story prints six names throughout: the guest of honor the book is about, and five friends in the house. The five come with names already filled in, and you can keep them or rename each one to a real friend. On the Fitted edition, some of the details you give us are written in too; the template page lists which ones each story takes.

Question 3

Our group is bigger than six. Can everyone be in it?

Accepted Answer

A Ready-Made Story has parts for the guest of honor and five friends. With a bigger group, pick the five who have the best stories, and give everyone else their own copy.

Question 4

Is it about a real TV show?

Accepted Answer

No. It is told like a season of reality television, with episodes and confessionals, but it is our own story and it is about your friends.

Question 5

Is it a picture book?

Accepted Answer

No. It is a chapter book: 180+ pages of story. The cover is the artwork made for the book, and the pages inside are words.

Question 6

Can I change anything after I read it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On a Ready-Made Story you can edit paragraphs yourself (unlocking editing costs 3 credits). Nothing is printed until you approve the book.

Question 7

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

One black-and-white paperback copy of the edition you choose. Journal Edition: $24.99. Ready-Made Story, With Your Names in It: $29.99. Ready-Made Story, Fitted to You: $34.99. Hardcover adds $9.99 a copy and a color interior $9.99; a gloss or matte cover costs the same. Shipping is free in the United States, from $20.00 to Canada and from $8.00 to the United Kingdom. The template page shows every edition on sale and its price.

Question 8

Can I order more than one copy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every copy after the first is $19.99, so everyone in the house can take one home.

Question 9

Can I get it as a download or an audiobook?

Accepted Answer

Yes, once you have approved the book: a Digital Edition to download, and for a Ready-Made Story an audiobook too. Outside the United States, the Digital Edition and the audiobook are sold by our international reseller, which may charge in your currency and adds your local tax.

Question 10

What is the Journal Edition?

Accepted Answer

Your cover, your title and, if you want one, your dedication — then pages with no story: lined, dot-grid or blank to write on, or, where the template offers one, a word style printed on every page. A printed copy with pages to write on ships to the United States and Canada.
