Refund Policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
At Simple Book Builder, we want you to be completely satisfied with your personalized book. This Refund Policy explains when and how refunds are available.
Understanding Our Product
Simple Book Builder creates custom books based on your personal inputs. The cover art is always AI-generated. The interior is one of: a journal, which our own software composes without AI; a ready-made story, which we wrote in advance and sell to many customers, with your names in it (and, on the Fitted option, a few sentences fitted to your answers); or, when offered, a story written for you from your questionnaire. A ready-made classic is a ready-made story we did not write: a public-domain story we adapted by hand in advance, with the names you give us and the pronouns you choose substituted in. No AI writes any of its text, and the book credits the original authors. A Personalized Bible is different again: its text is the King James Version or the Berean Standard Bible, whichever you choose, reprinted exactly as published, and you personalize its cover, title and personal pages, not the text. A Book of Enoch is the same, its text being R. H. Charles’s 1917 English translation, printed word for word without his editorial marks, section headings and notes, as the book’s About This Text page describes.
Every printed book is printed to order after you approve it. We hold no stock, nothing is printed until you sign off, and an order cannot be recalled once it has been sent to the printer. That is why our refund policy differs from standard retail products.
You can also buy a digital edition — a downloadable EPUB and PDF of your finished book. Nothing is printed or shipped for a digital edition, so the printing and shipping sections below do not apply to it. Digital editions have their own section further down this page.
You can also buy an audiobook — a downloadable MP3 of your finished book, read aloud by a synthetic voice you choose. Nothing is printed or shipped for an audiobook either, and it has its own section further down this page.
The Approval Process
Before any book is printed, you will have the opportunity to review and approve:
- Story Content: Review all of your book’s text
- Cover Art: Review the AI-generated cover image
- Final Proof: Review the complete book layout
Each approval step requires you to confirm that you have reviewed the content and accept it for printing.
Refund Eligibility
Full Refund Available
You pay for the book at checkout, which happens after you approve your proof — so before approval there is nothing to refund on the book itself, and you can simply stop. Credits are a separate purchase: if you bought credits before approving, you were charged for them at that time and they are non-refundable (see Credit Purchases below). Once you have paid for the book, you are eligible for a full refund if:
- Technical errors prevented proper generation of your content
- Payment was processed in error (duplicate charge, incorrect amount)
- We are able to stop your order before it enters printing after you contact us immediately (see Cancellations)
- Your paid order cannot be produced or fails production and you choose a refund (see Unable to Produce / Production Errors)
Partial Refund or Reprint Available
We may offer a partial refund or free reprint if:
- The printed book has significant quality defects (misprints, damage, binding issues)
- The printed book differs materially from the approved proof
- The book was lost or damaged in shipping
Please contact support within 14 days of delivery with photos of any defects.
No Refunds Available
Refunds are NOT available after you approve the final proof for the following reasons:
- You changed your mind about the content
- You discovered errors you missed during review
- You are dissatisfied with content you approved
- The book does not meet subjective expectations
- Recipients do not like their personalized book
- The order was for a digital edition — see Digital Editions (E-Books) below, or for an audiobook — see Audiobooks below
Why Approved Orders Cannot Be Refunded
When you approve the final proof, you explicitly confirm:
- You have reviewed all content
- The content is acceptable for printing
- You understand how your book’s content was produced
- You accept responsibility for the approved content
Each printed book is printed to order for you after you approve it, so we hold no stock and cannot re-sell an unwanted copy. The approval process exists to ensure you are satisfied before printing begins.
How to Request a Refund
- Visit our support portal and create a new ticket
- Select "Billing Question" as the category
- Include your order number and reason for the refund request
- For quality issues, attach clear photos of the problem
- We will respond within 2 business days
Refund Processing
Approved refunds will be processed to your original payment method within 5-10 business days. Depending on your bank, it may take additional time to appear on your statement.
Cancellations
Where you are in the process determines what applies:
- Before you approve and pay: You have not been charged for the book, so there is nothing to cancel — just stop, or delete the book. If you bought credits along the way (for example to unlock paragraph edits or to regenerate a book), those credits were charged when you bought them and are non-refundable; stopping or deleting the book does not return them.
- After payment: Your book is sent to production right away, so we usually cannot cancel once you have paid. If you contact us immediately we will try to stop the order before it enters printing, but we cannot guarantee it. Once printing has begun, the order cannot be canceled.
If you need to try to stop an order after payment, please contact support as soon as possible.
Defective Products
If you receive a defective product (printing errors, damaged pages, binding problems), please:
- Contact support within 14 days of delivery
- Provide clear photos showing the defect
- Keep the defective product until we confirm resolution
We will send a replacement at no additional cost or provide a full refund, at your choice.
In a Personalized Bible, the text is printed from a fixed copy of the King James Version or the Berean Standard Bible, whichever you chose, and cannot be edited, so you do not approve it word by word. If your printed book's text differs from that published text — a missing or changed word, verse or chapter — that is our defect, handled exactly as above. Its original spelling and wording are not defects. The same holds for a Book of Enoch, against R. H. Charles’s translation as its About This Text page describes it.
Unable to Produce / Production Errors
If a paid order cannot be produced or fails production, we will either reprint the book or issue a full refund. You may choose reprint or refund when both options are reasonably available; otherwise we will make a reasonable determination based on the circumstances.
Lost or Damaged Shipments
If your order is lost or arrives damaged:
- For packages marked as delivered but not received, contact support within 14 days of delivery
- For visibly damaged packages, photograph the damage before opening
- We will file a claim with the carrier and either reship or refund
Credit Purchases
Credits purchased through our platform are non-refundable, except as described in section 22 of our Terms of Service if we discontinue the Service. Credits are used to generate an additional book before you have purchased your previous one (generation is otherwise free), to unlock paragraph edits, and for optional features such as regenerating content and additional cover variations. Credits pay for work on the Service itself — generating or regenerating a book, cover variations, paragraph edits, restyling the interior, and restoring expired downloads. Printing and shipping of a physical book are purchased separately at checkout. Credits have no cash value and are non-transferable, except where prohibited by law. Credits do not expire while your account remains active. Any remaining credits are forfeited if you delete your account, except where prohibited by applicable law. Unclaimed credit balances on inactive accounts may be subject to applicable state unclaimed property laws.
Credits bought from outside the United States are sold by our reseller Link as seller of record, and Link may refund a purchase it sold within 60 days under its own refund policy. A purchase Link refunds removes the credits it added, in proportion to the amount refunded and as far as your balance still holds them. The same is true of digital editions and audiobooks bought from outside the United States: Link sells them, and Link may refund them within 60 days under its own policy. A digital edition or audiobook that is refunded in full, by us or by Link, is removed from your account.
Disputes
If you believe you are entitled to a refund that was denied, you may:
- Request escalation to a supervisor through our support portal
- Provide additional documentation supporting your case
Please note that initiating a chargeback with your bank for an order you approved may result in account suspension.
Digital Editions (E-Books)
A digital edition is a downloadable EPUB and PDF of your finished book. It is a separate product from the printed book, and it is governed by this section rather than by the sections above, which describe printing and shipping.
A journal made only of writing pages (lined, dot-grid or blank) comes as a PDF only: its pages carry no text for an e-reader to display, so an EPUB of it would be empty. We say so wherever that journal's digital edition is offered, before you buy it.
Digital editions are non-refundable
All sales of digital editions are final from the moment of purchase. The files cannot be returned once they have been downloaded, so we do not offer refunds on digital editions. You are asked to confirm that you understand this before you pay, and finality does not depend on whether you have downloaded the files yet — if anything is wrong with them, the remedy below applies.
Your files are prepared as soon as you order and are usually ready within a few minutes. We email you as soon as they are ready to download.
If something is wrong with a file, we will fix it. If a file is corrupt, incomplete, or does not match the book you approved, contact our support portal and we will repair or re-deliver it at no charge. This repair is your remedy in place of a refund.
The files you download are the product
Your digital edition is delivered to you as a download. The files you download are the product. Re-downloading from your account is a convenience we host for twelve months from the date the edition is prepared — it is not a storage, backup, or archival service, and it is not part of what you purchased.
Please download and keep your own copy. You are responsible for retaining and backing up your files. We will email you before the twelve months end, and your Downloads page shows the date for each edition, but we do not guarantee that any copy will remain available in your account beyond that period.
If the period ends, you have not lost the book. Your purchase stands, and you can restore access from your account at any time for a small number of credits, which begins a new twelve-month period. This is not a second purchase of the edition — it pays for preparing and hosting the files again.
If we discontinue the Service or cease operations, access to re-download will end. Where practicable we will give advance notice by email to the address on your account so you can download your files, but we are not obligated to maintain access, restore files, or provide media after that point. Because your digital edition was delivered to you at purchase, ending re-download access does not entitle you to a refund.
Buying a digital edition does not change the printed book price
A digital edition unlocks the content of that book for you, but it is not a purchase of a printed copy. If you later order the printed book, the first printed copy is charged at the normal first-copy price, and additional copies at the additional-copy price.
Audiobooks
An audiobook is a downloadable MP3 of your finished book, read aloud by a synthetic voice you choose. It is a separate product from both the printed book and the digital edition, and it is governed by this section rather than by the printing and shipping sections above.
You can listen to a sample of every voice before you buy. The narration is produced by software, not by a human narrator. Audiobooks are offered only for books with a written story — a book made with the no-story interior cannot be narrated.
Audiobooks are non-refundable
All sales of audiobooks are final from the moment of purchase. The recording cannot be returned once it has been downloaded, so we do not offer refunds on audiobooks. You are asked to confirm that you understand this before you pay, and finality does not depend on whether you have downloaded the file yet — if anything is wrong with it, the remedy below applies.
Your recording is produced as soon as you order. A full-length book takes a while to narrate, and we email you as soon as it is ready to download.
If something is wrong with a recording, we will fix it. If the file is corrupt, incomplete, or does not match the book you approved, contact our support portal and we will repair or re-deliver it at no charge. This repair is your remedy in place of a refund.
Preferring a different voice is not a fault. Every voice can be sampled before you buy, so choosing another one after hearing the finished recording is a new purchase rather than a repair or a refund — see below.
The file you download is the product
Your audiobook is delivered to you as a download. The file you download is the product. Re-downloading from your account is a convenience we host for ninety days from the date the recording is ready. That is shorter than the twelve months we host a digital edition, because an audiobook is a much larger file. It is not a storage, backup, or archival service, and it is not part of what you purchased.
Please download and keep your own copy. You are responsible for retaining and backing up your file. We will email you before the ninety days end, and your Downloads page shows the date from the moment the recording is ready, but we do not guarantee that any copy will remain available in your account beyond that period.
If the period ends, you have not lost the recording. Your purchase stands, and you can restore access from your account at any time for credits, which begins a new ninety-day period. This is not a second purchase of the audiobook — it pays for narrating and hosting the recording again. It costs more credits than restoring a digital edition, because the whole book has to be narrated from the beginning rather than simply re-rendered.
If we discontinue the Service or cease operations, access to re-download will end. Where practicable we will give advance notice by email to the address on your account so you can download your recording, but we are not obligated to maintain access, restore files, or provide media after that point. Because your audiobook was delivered to you at purchase, ending re-download access does not entitle you to a refund.
Changing the voice is a new purchase
A restore gives you the same book in the same voice. If you would rather have a different voice, that is a new purchase, not a restore and not a refund of the first one, priced the same way as any audiobook of that book: the add-on price if you have bought, or are buying, a printed copy of it, and the standalone price otherwise. It is a different recording that has to be produced from the beginning, which is why it is priced as buying it again.
Buying a different voice replaces the recording we host for you and begins a new ninety-day period. The file you already downloaded remains yours.
Buying an audiobook does not change the printed book price
An audiobook unlocks the content of that book for you, but it is not a purchase of a printed copy or of a digital edition. If you later order the printed book, the first printed copy is charged at the normal first-copy price, and additional copies at the additional-copy price.
Where We Sell
We currently sell and ship printed books to addresses in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Shipping is free within the United States; for Canada and the United Kingdom a shipping charge is calculated at checkout and shown before you pay. A book with journal pages (lined, dot-grid or blank pages to write in) ships to the United States and Canada only.
Digital editions and audiobooks can be bought from anywhere. Nothing ships for them, so no shipping is charged. Bought from the United States, we sell them; bought from anywhere else, or from a connection whose country we cannot detect, our reseller Link sells them as seller of record. One can be added to an order for a printed copy only when you are ordering from the United States for delivery there; otherwise you buy it after that order, at the same add-on price.
A Personalized Bible printing the King James Version is sold only to addresses in the United States, whether printed, as a digital edition or as an audiobook; one printing the Berean Standard Bible is sold wherever our other books are. A Book of Enoch is sold only to addresses in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, whether printed, as a digital edition or as an audiobook.
Because each printed book is custom-made and individually manufactured from your inputs, it is a personalized, made-to-order good — once you approve the final proof, all sales are final except as described elsewhere in this policy.
Consumer protection laws in your country or region may give you rights in addition to those described here. Nothing in this policy limits or waives those rights.

Change Log
- October 23, 2026: Added ready-made classics: a public-domain story we adapted by hand in advance, with your names and pronouns substituted in and no AI-generated text.
- October 19, 2026: Added the Book of Enoch: what it is, that a printed text differing from R. H. Charles’s translation as described in the book is our defect, and that it is sold to addresses in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada only.
- October 4, 2026: Personalized Bibles now print the King James Version or the Berean Standard Bible; a printed text differing from the published text chosen is our defect, and only a King James Version Bible is limited to US addresses. A digital edition or audiobook refunded in full, by us or by Link, is removed from your account.
- October 3, 2026: Digital editions, audiobooks and credits bought from outside the United States are sold by our reseller Link, which may refund a purchase it sold within 60 days; bought from the United States, we sell them. A digital edition or audiobook joins an order for a printed copy only when it is ordered from and delivered to the United States. Printed books still ship to the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, except books with journal pages, which ship to the United States and Canada only.
- October 2, 2026: Added Personalized Bibles: what they are, that a printed text differing from the published King James Version is our defect (its original spelling is not), and that they are sold to US addresses only.
- September 28, 2026: A package marked as delivered but not received now has the same 14 days from delivery to contact support as a lost or damaged book under Partial Refund or Reprint Available. The Lost or Damaged Shipments section previously gave 7 days for the same package; the 14-day window applies.
- September 28, 2026: "Changing the voice is a new purchase" now states that a different voice is priced the same way as any audiobook of that book (the add-on price if you have bought, or are buying, a printed copy of it, and the standalone price otherwise), as checkout charges it, rather than always at the standalone price.
- September 27, 2026: "Understanding Our Product" now lists the interiors as they are sold — a journal, a ready-made story (with the Fitted option), or, when offered, a story written for you. Credits are described as paying for work on the Service itself rather than for AI generation only, since several credit charges involve no AI, and the credit section now points to the Terms' commitment on unspent credits if the Service is discontinued. The refund request category is named as it appears on the form ("Billing Question").
- September 26, 2026: A journal made only of writing pages (lined, dot-grid or blank) now comes as a PDF only, without an EPUB, because its pages carry no text for an e-reader to show. This is stated wherever that journal's digital edition is offered. Spelling is also standardized to US English.
- August 30, 2026: Added audiobooks. An audiobook is a downloadable MP3 read by a synthetic voice, sold separately from the printed book and the digital edition, and it has its own section on this page. Like the digital edition it is non-refundable from the moment of purchase, because the file is yours to keep as soon as it is delivered.
- August 27, 2026: Gave the digital-edition re-download convenience a definite length. It was previously open-ended ("while the Service operates") with no guarantee that any copy would remain available, which told you less about when access might end than this does. It is now twelve months from the date an edition is prepared, with an email before it ends, the date shown on your Downloads page throughout, and the option to restore access for a small number of credits afterwards. The files you have already downloaded are unaffected — they remain yours permanently, as they always have been. Also corrected the repair remedy to say it runs through the support portal, which is how it has always been described in this policy.
- August 25, 2026: Corrected the description of what you have paid before you approve a proof. The policy previously said you had not been charged at all at that point; that is true of the book, but not of credits, which are charged when you buy them and are non-refundable. Both places that said so now scope the statement to the book and point to the Credit Purchases section.
- August 22, 2026: Added the Digital Editions (E-Books) section: digital editions are non-refundable from the moment of purchase, with repair or re-delivery at no charge as the remedy for a defective file; the downloaded files are the product and re-download access is a convenience rather than an archival guarantee; digital editions are sold in the US and Canada only. Also clarified that filler interiors are composed by our own software rather than by AI, scoped the printed-to-order language to printed books now that a digital edition is sold on this page, and replaced the closing exception list with a reference to this policy as a whole so it no longer reads as exhaustive.
- July 23, 2026: Initial version.
