Creating Your Account
How to sign up, verify your email address, log in with the code we email you, and reset a forgotten password.
Creating Your Account
You need a free account to create books, save proofs, and place orders. It costs nothing to sign up, and writing your first book is normally free.
Signing Up
- Click Get Started in the navigation at the top of the page. If you are already on the login page, the same link there is called Sign up.
- Fill in Name and Email address, choose a Password, and type the same password again under Confirm password.
- Tick the box that reads “I am at least 18 years old and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy”. This one is required — the account cannot be created without it. Both documents open in a new tab if you want to read them first.
- The second box, “I’d like to receive promotional emails, new templates, and special offers”, is optional. Leaving it unchecked changes nothing about your books or your orders, and you can change your mind later in Settings on the Notifications tab. See Email Notification Preferences.
- Complete the security check that confirms you are a person and not a robot. If it asks you to click a box, click it and wait for it to finish.
- Click Create account.
Choosing a Password
Your password must be at least 8 characters long, contain both upper and lower case letters, and contain at least one number. It must also not be a password that has appeared in a known public data breach.
That last rule is why a password you have used happily for years is sometimes refused. It is not a judgment about how clever the password is — only that this exact password is already circulating publicly, so it is not safe to use here. Pick a different one. The same rules apply later when you change or reset it.
Verifying Your Email
We email you a verification link as soon as you register. Click the link to verify the address.
If it has not arrived, check your spam folder first. To send it again, use the Resend verification email button on the Verify email page — that is the page we show when an unverified address signs in. You can also resend it from Settings: while the address is unverified, the Profile tab shows the line “Your email address is unverified” with a link to send the email again.
Logging In
Go to Log in and enter your email address and password. Unless you have added an authenticator app, we then email you a sign-in code and ask for it on a screen headed Check your email. Type the code in and click Continue.
A second step at sign-in applies to every account and cannot be switched off, so plan on having your email — or your authenticator app, if you add one — on hand whenever you sign in. If the code does not arrive, click Send a new code; there is a short wait before we will send another. If you cannot get into that mailbox at all, use Can’t get the code? Use a recovery code.
The first time you sign in, we show you a set of recovery codes once, right after your first code is accepted. Save them somewhere safe — they are how you get in if you ever lose access to your email. That one showing is the only time we display them while emailed codes are your second step: the Two-Factor Auth tab shows a 2FA Recovery Codes section, where you can look at them again or replace them, only while an authenticator app is set up. If you are locked out and have no codes left, write to us at support@simplebookbuilder.com.
That tab also has Add authenticator app. Adding one changes where the code comes from: we stop emailing a code at sign-in and ask for the one in your app instead, and your recovery codes still work if the app is unavailable. Remove authenticator app puts you back on emailed codes. Full detail is in Two-Factor Authentication.
Forgot Your Password?
Click Forgot password? on the login page, enter your email address, and we will email you a reset link. The new password has to meet the same rules as above.
